THE Library of Mass Spectra

We have received many requests from our customers for a library of mass spectra of our comprehensive range of environmental standards. This library would need to be as complete as possible, containing not only the common, widely used pesticides, but also those compounds recently developed and metabolites of pesticides, as well as other important pollutants. It is now available from Dr. Ehrenstorfer Laboratories.

This library contains more than 1450 spectra of pesticides and other product groups, which are important to the environmental analyst, and will grow in line with our range of reference materials.

Here are some answers to likely questions you may have.

1. Is this collection of data also available as a book? With additional information? A projekt is currently underway to prepare this, although we believe this is of secondary importance, due to the fact that the library will be continually updated. This is straight forward with a disc, but more difficult with a book - everyone knows, what happens to reference books which are not updated! We would appreciate any comments or suggestions that you may have concerning this.

2. Are chemical structures included in the database?
This work is currently underway.

3. 1450 entries in a specialized MS-library is an impressive number, but how many are listed twice or more?
One product - one spectrum - one entry.

4. Our GC-MS is from the company XYZ. Is the library compatible?
All common data formats are supported. With systems older than 8 years we
recommend you test a free sample of the library.

5. The computer linked to our GC-MS has no CD-ROM drive!
No Problem, one 3 1/2 " disc drive is sufficient.

6. Many libraries have a spectrum for Atrazin, but what about it's metabolites?
As this is a library for environmental analysis all possible metabolites are included.

7. Our GC-MS is made by XYZ company and the spectra look different.
Yes you are correct. This is because no two GC-MS systems on Earth will
generate two identical spectra. This is, why modern search engines use local normalisation.
As intensity varies the most, it's importance for the newly developed algorithms is reduced.
There is no room for a change of the response at a characteristic mass of the molecular ion and
the type of fragmentation.

8. Is it possible to look at some of your spectra?
Of course - you may have a look at the spectra of Simazine, Simazine D 5 and Simazine D 10.
This illustrates the usefulness of stable isotopes as internal standards.

9. Are there only pesticides in your library?
Pesticides and their metabolites are the largest group of compounds, however you will also find the
compounds cited in US EPA Methods.

10. How will you isssue updates?
Each user of the database has the option to purchase a subscription for regular updates.
You will be notified automatically as each update is ready. We are planning one update each year,
but interim releases may also be issued.

11. Is it possible to add other chemical groups?
Rare compounds used in research at the moment, such as polycyclic musks and special
nitro aromatic compounds are on the waiting list. We are open for suggestions.

12. Will the database show full chemical names or trivial names?
Our library uses ISO names, which happen to be the most common, trivial name, as this offers the greatest recognition and therefore saves time. Simazine seems to be an unknown name to existing libraries!

13. Why should I use a specific library?
Most of these spectra are not available anywhere else and it will save time: You will have to search 1300 spectra not 60,000!

14. What about technical service or even if I need a spectrum of a new compound today?
We will try to help - simply phone or fax us with your request. Unlike other producer of libraries we
offer free technical service and strongly encourage comment and feed-back from you, our customer.

15. Are there really only Pesticides in this library?
As said before, there are PAH, PCB, Phenols, Derivates, VOC, Pesticides, Metabolites, Polycyclic Musk Compounds, etc. and it is available now !!!
